Victoria Miro presents a new body of work by Idris Khan in his third solo presentation with the gallery. Beyond the Black (20 September to 9 November 2013) marks an important departure from Khan's photographic based works and comprises a suite of large black paintings, a monumental site specific wall drawing and a series of works on paper, all of which consider the metaphysics of creativity.

For it's inaugural exhibition cycle, PRAXES presents two parallel strings of exhibitions by Gerard Byrne (Dublin/Copenhagen) and Jutta Koether (Berlin/New York). Opening on 31 August 2013, PRAXES Center for Contemporary Art is a new not-for-profit venue for international contemporary art and research in Berlin. Situated in a two-story 200-square-meter former community building, PRAXES presents half-year cycles of consecutive exhibition modules, papers, and live activities revolving around two unassociated artistic practices.

School of Visual Arts presents The Pond, the Mirror, the Kaleidoscope, an exhibition of emerging and established artists who graduated from SVA and are working in the Symbolist tradition. These "neo-Symbolists" make mythological and dreamlike pictures that challenge prevailing assumptions about narrative, subjectivity and figurative painting itself. Their subjects may be environmental (the pond), societal and cultural (the mirror) or a post-apocalyptic, futuristic mash-up (the kaleidoscope).

The artist's most comprehensive survey in the United States to date, Wangechi Mutu: A Fantastic Journey brings together more than fifty works from the mid-1990s to the present by this internationally renowned Brooklyn-based artist. As You Can See: Polish Art Today is the first show of current Polish art spanning such range for more than a decade. It centres around important works, attitudes, and themes commented on by visual artists over recent years. The Elba Benítez Gallery in Madrid announces the exhibition of work by Mario García Torres. It opens on February 21, coinciding with ARCOmadrid. The centerpiece of the exhibition is Xoco, the Kid Who Loved Being Bored (cont.), a 16mm animated film projected onto the wall of the gallery, accompanied by painted backgrounds of the type used by professional animators and that are likewise exhibited on the gallery walls.

Themed Literacy – Illiteracy, the 16th Tallinn Print Triennial deals with the relationship between visual art and literacy, between text and language in the 21st century; a relationship which is characterised by an intense competition between the digital reality and expressions of genuine longing for sensuous tactility. Tension is added to the topic by the abundance of different strategies and various positions among the artists.

The Project [SFIP] is a multi-national exhibition process and a platform for critical thinking, researching and presenting African video art. The exhibition ‘Still Fighting Ignorance & Intellectual Perfidy’ presents a selection of African video art that stands beyond the clichés that remain associated with the dark continent and the postcolonial image. It seeks to bring viewers closer to idiosyncratic readings of African video art and its thematic concerns which are largely ignored.

The exhibition is the first presentation in Poland of the works of the Norwegian photographer Rune Eraker and also the first exhibition of socially engaged photography at MOCAK. It consists of 73 black-and-white photographs from the series "The Smell of Longing" and two screenings that contain some photographs from the series never shown before.
