Book Description:
Humans and Other Animals is a major thematic exhibition and book exploring the work of Elisabeth Frink alongside major modern and contemporary artists. Featuring over 100 works by Frink, as well as works by modern masters including Giacometti, Richier, Rodin, Picasso, Bourgeois, Marini, Bacon, Moore, Paolozzi, Chadwick and many others. Contemporary artists include Rebecca Warren and Douglas Gordon. Frink emerged in the early 1950's as a highly original, expressive and imaginative sculptor producing a remarkable body of work from a very young age. By the time she died in 1992 at the age of 62, she was one of the most important British sculptors of her generation. This exhibition aims to position Frink as one of the most important British sculptors of the twentieth century and place her work in the context of other modern masters, contemporary artists and ancient art. The book contains essays by Calvin Winner and Tania Moore, exhibition curators at the Sainsbury Centre who provide a new critical assessment of Frink's work.
