Gulbuddin Hekmatyar is a well-renowned Afghan politician, a powerful Islamic scholar and an influential jihadi leader, who had twice served as a Prime Minister of Afghanistan during the 1990s. Hekmatyar is the Ameer of the Islamic Party of Afghanistan, successfully leading his party for almost 50 years. He was the first to lead the jihad against the Soviets and the first to declare the jihad against the American invasion in Afghanistan. Hekmatyar has written over 120 books and in 2016, he signed a peace agreement with the Afghan government, which laid the groundwork for peace and ended the decades-long war.
