White River Blues

This second collection of poems by Jane Ulysses Grell brings together work from three decades. The title, White River Blues, is a reference to Grell's birthplace, the village of Delices on the Caribbean island of Dominica. Her poems are both strong and delicate and full of variety in form and content. Whether she is writing about an east London pond or the aftermath of a tropical storm in Dominica Grell brings a warmth and wit to her writing and transcends the obvious. The poems in this collection touch on snippets of life in their varying phases both joyful and sombre, where hardships are met with the fighting spirit of survival portrayed in the Blues songs of the African-American people.
